Char Dham Yatra Packing List 2026 — What to Carry for Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri & Yamunotri
Packing correctly for the Char Dham Yatra can make the difference between a spiritually enriching journey and a physically difficult one. The four dhams are located at altitudes of 1,000 to 3,600+ metres and weather can change suddenly. This is the exact packing list our tour managers recommend to every Char Dham traveler from Ahmedabad.
Golden Rule: Pack Light
You will be trekking to Yamunotri (6 km) and Kedarnath (18 km total). Every extra kilogram in your bag is a burden. Carry only what is essential. You can buy basic necessities at Haridwar and Rishikesh at reasonable prices.
Documents (Mandatory)
- Aadhar Card (original + 2 photocopies)
- Char Dham Yatra ePass (registration slip — print + digital)
- Booking confirmation from Sorath Travels
- Train / flight tickets
- Travel insurance documents
- Doctor's fitness certificate (recommended for 60+ travelers)
- Prescription medicines list (for emergency)
Clothing (May–June Departure)
- 2–3 light full-sleeve shirts (cotton or dri-fit)
- 1 medium-weight fleece jacket or woollen sweater
- 1 heavy winter jacket (Kedarnath and Badrinath are cold even in June)
- Thermal inner wear: 1 set top + bottom
- 2–3 comfortable trousers (avoid tight jeans)
- Woollen cap and muffler
- Lightweight gloves
- Waterproof/windproof rain poncho or jacket
- 5–6 pairs of socks (mix of thin and woollen)
Footwear
- Trekking shoes with good grip (anti-slip sole is essential for Kedarnath and Yamunotri)
- Flip-flops or sandals for hotel and ghat use
- Gumboots / waterproof shoe covers (optional but useful in rain)
Medicines and Health
- Diamox 250mg (altitude sickness — consult doctor)
- Paracetamol / Crocin
- Antacid (Digene, Eno)
- ORS sachets (5–10 packets)
- Muscle pain relief spray or gel (for trek muscle aches)
- Diarrhoea medicine (Norflox / Loperamide)
- Motion sickness tablets (mountain roads are winding)
- Personal prescription medicines (minimum 15-day supply)
- Bandages, antiseptic cream, pain relief plasters
- Sunscreen SPF 50+
- Lip balm
- Hand sanitiser
Spiritual Essentials
- Puja thali items: kumkum, flowers, incense sticks
- Gangajal container (for collecting holy water)
- Prayer beads (mala)
- Small idol or photo for personal prayer
- White or saffron-coloured clothes for temple darshan (optional)
Trekking Accessories
- Trekking stick / walking pole (available to hire at Gaurikund/Janki Chatti too)
- Small day backpack (20–25L for trek days)
- Water bottle (1L minimum — stay hydrated)
- Energy bars or dry fruits and nuts
- Torch / headlamp with extra batteries
What NOT to Carry
- Leather items (non-vegetarian footwear, belts) inside the temple premises
- Tobacco or alcohol (spiritually inappropriate and physically harmful at altitude)
- Excessive jewellery
- More than 1 large suitcase per person
- Unnecessary electronic gadgets
