Planning a Gujarat group tour? The most frequently asked question we receive is: "When is the best time to visit Gujarat?"

Having organized 200+ Gujarat group tours from Ahmedabad since 2020, our team has direct, on-the-ground experience of how weather affects travel across Dwarka, Somnath, Diu, Sasan Gir, Statue of Unity, and Junagadh. This guide is based on that experience — not just weather data from a website.

Short answer: The best time to visit Gujarat for a group tour is October to March — the winter months when weather is pleasant, all attractions are open, and safari conditions are ideal.

Best Time for Each Gujarat Destination

Dwarka — Best: October to February

Dwarka is a coastal city and can feel warm in March–April. October to February offers the best combination of comfortable temperatures and calm seas for the Beyt Dwarka boat ride. The Dwarkadhish Temple is open year-round, but the early morning aarti in November–January in cooler weather is particularly special.

Somnath Temple — Best: October to March

Somnath is a pilgrimage destination and can be visited year-round. However, the evening Aarti at Somnath Temple during October–March is most enjoyable in cool weather. The temple sees significantly higher footfall during Shivratri (February–March).

Sasan Gir (Lion Safari) — Best: November to May

The Gir National Park closes for the monsoon season from mid-June to mid-October. The best time for a lion safari is November to March, when vegetation thins out and wildlife sightings are more frequent. Our group tours operate during this window specifically because we want you to have a high chance of spotting Asiatic lions.

Important: Safari permits at Gir are limited and must be booked in advance. As a tour operator, we pre-book safari permits for all our group tour travelers — this is one advantage of traveling with an organized operator.

Diu (Beaches) — Best: October to February

Diu's beaches are most enjoyable October to February when the sea is calm and the weather is pleasant. March–April can be warm but still manageable. Monsoon (June–August) makes Diu windy and the sea rough — beach activities are not possible.

Statue of Unity (Kevadiya) — Best: October to February

The area around the Statue of Unity is inland and gets very hot from April–June. The Valley of Flowers and the surrounding garden complex are most enjoyable in winter. Weekends and public holidays see large crowds — our group tours visit on weekdays where possible to avoid queues.

Junagadh & Girnar Ropeway — Best: October to March

The Girnar ropeway area is a forest zone and can get foggy in January–February mornings. The ropeway operates year-round, but October–December offers clear views of the surrounding landscape from the top.

Monsoon in Gujarat: Should You Avoid It?

Gujarat's monsoon (June–September) brings heavy rains, especially along the Saurashtra coast — Somnath, Diu, Junagadh, and Dwarka all receive significant rainfall. The Gir National Park is completely closed during monsoon. Road conditions can be unpredictable.

That said, post-monsoon October is one of the most beautiful months in Gujarat — landscapes are lush and green, the air is clean, and tourist crowds have not yet peaked. We typically schedule our first post-monsoon departures in October.

Peak Season vs Off-Season Prices

Our tour prices are consistent throughout the year, but accommodation availability can be tight during peak season (December–January) due to higher demand. If you plan to travel during this window, we recommend booking your seat at least 3–4 weeks in advance.

When Do We Operate Gujarat Group Tours?

Sorath Travels operates fixed-departure Gujarat group tours from Ahmedabad primarily during October to April. We schedule departures every month during this window, typically on the 24th of each month (subject to confirmation).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is December a good month to visit Gujarat?

Yes. December is one of the best months to visit Gujarat. Weather is cool and dry (13–26°C), all attractions including Gir safari are fully operational, and the Somnath and Dwarka aartis are particularly atmospheric in winter.

Can I visit Gujarat in summer?

Technically yes, but April–June temperatures in Gujarat regularly exceed 40°C in the Saurashtra region. Most travelers find this uncomfortable for sightseeing. We do not operate group tours during May–June.

Which is the coolest month in Gujarat?

January is typically the coolest month across Gujarat, with temperatures ranging from 12–24°C. December and January together form the peak winter travel season.
